What is a Unix Timestamp?
A Unix timestamp (also called Unix epoch time) is the number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC (the "Unix epoch"). It is the universal standard for storing, comparing, and computing dates and times in software systems, independent of time zones.
Seconds vs Milliseconds
Most Unix systems and server-side languages (Python, C, PHP) use seconds. JavaScript and many APIs return milliseconds (multiply seconds × 1000). Always check the digit count — a 10-digit number is seconds, a 13-digit number is milliseconds.
